Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Shajingou Nanshan, Aohan Banner, Inner Mongolia. It was named by the No. 2 Inner Mongolian Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1965.


Lithology and Thickness

Claystone and Sandstone. Composed of black slate and clayey slate, intercalated with conglomerate and purple-red medium- to fine-grained feldspar-rich sandstone and grit, locally with coal seams. They are interbedded in unequal thickness, in which 4 rhythmites are formed from conglomerate to black slate. Exposed thickness 385 m.

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Jiadaogou Fm

Distributed at Jiadaogou, Fanjiazhangzi, Daogelangyingzi, Sanguanyingzi and Maodaigou of Anhan Banner, Xiangyangsuo of Hure Banner, Siziwang Banner, Haerdele, etc

Containing the early Cathysian Flora Neuropteris pseudovata-Lepidodendron tachingshanense assemblage, including L. szeianum, Tingia carbonica, Callipteridium sp., Sphenobaiera? sp., etc.
